Gudrun Daum – Master in Discovering Spontaneous Expressions in Life

Her early passion for portrait painting, her exact studies of persons might have promoted her particular focus on the human being. Herewith she takes into account not only their physiognomy, but also the atmosphere, the mood, the situation in society, phases of life and perspectives. She reflects the situation by using hasty brushstrokes, those nevertheless being secure and well defined. Colours and brushstrokes achieve a narrative, partially energetic character. Those form the diction explaining the topic and the background. The individual person is shown in various situations, of personal pleasure, of love, of aggressions, of melancholy and of sorrow as well as in social contrasts. Thus Gudrun Daum reveals a careful observer. Her style of painting is geared to the practice of sketching and is partially determined by abstraction. The artist’s process of working is not fixed, but it is developing out of the flow of personal thoughts. In spite of this maintains her focus on the person shown, the atmosphere and the message of die picture.
